Miracle lamp: balloons from Maarten Baas

Креативный светильник: воздушные шарики от Maarten Baas

Danish designer Maarten Baas has created an original collection from matt colored glass. What does this lamp look like? Balloons, of course!

Within the framework of a cooperation project with the Czech studio Lasvit, a graduate of the Eindhoven Academy, Maarten Baas, produced glass shades by traditional blowing, giving them the shape of slightly air-filled balls. In technical terms, this is a unique joint project that combines the tradition of glass-blowing craft, the vision of Lasvit and the ingenious design of Maarten Baas.

Clay tips decorate the tops of the fixtures, hiding the electrical connections. Inside hides light-scattering miniature bulbs.

Through his work, the artist introduces us to the classics, to its recognizable silhouettes, giving them modern and often funny features.

Each lamp weighs about 3 kg and differs in shape from its counterparts due to the specifics of production, in which the product is blown through a tube rotated by human hands with a ball of molten glass hanging at its end. A mesmerizing sight!

Shades are available in milk, red, green and yellow.

It is worth noting that the lamps are made in the same style as the chandelier, which Baas presented at the Milan exhibition in 2015. The exhibit was decorated with smaller shades with clay plugs topping them..
