Today we will get acquainted with a rather unusual series of lighting fixtures called Upcycle. The carved wooden chandeliers were designed and successfully implemented by professional designer and talented engineer Benjamin Spoth from the Dutch metropolis of Eindhoven..
When the designer saw how much high-quality waste of birch plywood remains in an industrial enterprise, he decided to find a way to reuse natural raw materials. He designed unique handcrafted luminaires based on strips of high quality wood trim.
The Upcycle collection consists of five lamps with woven shades of various shapes, sizes and structures.
Carefully handcrafted by craftsmen from Multiplex wood, the products impress customers with their unusual appearance.
Five collectible pieces were unveiled to the public at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven 2014.
In the course of their creative activity, the craftsmen collected two-meter scraps of plywood and cut them into the finest slices. Then the blanks were intertwined and turned into fantastic lampshades.
To add volume to the unique products, the wood was steamed. As a result, the material became moist, flexible and pliable, which made it possible to bend the strips in a certain way. At the same time, the texture of the material remained the same – with cracks and spots – which is why the lamps turned out to be incredibly natural.
The variety of shapes and sizes allows buyers to choose the option for the interior design of their own home that can organically fit not only into modern decoration, but also into classic design.
So, for example, a three-dimensional model will look great in a country mansion above the dining table, and a thinner and more graceful one will decorate the reading corner or accentuate the look on a certain functional area..
The design has a solid and reliable metal base, to which a wooden hoop with a shade, a cartridge and an electric cord are attached. The lattice surface of the lampshade lets in a soft glow, filling the apartment with special charm and expressiveness.
Look at the photo below: thanks to the competent processing of the material with steam, the planks have been bent in a completely unthinkable way! An exquisite silhouette, isn’t it?!
See how the openwork lamp looks spectacular in the interior. When the light is on, the grille throws a gorgeous pattern on the wall that will calm your eyes after a hard day..
Natural texture brings rustic charm to the room.
Upcycle masterpieces by Benjamin Spoth are the inspiration of nature in its purest form. Variety of shapes and sizes, original stylistic performance using textured birch wood and laconic designs – it is impossible to walk past the lamps!
