Dutch electronics giant Philips recently launched a new light source using LEDs. Launched on the market on Earth Day (22 April 2012), it won the competition «Bright Tomorrow», conducted by the US Department of Energy. The goal of the competition is to find an energy efficient alternative to a 60-watt incandescent light bulb.
A light-emitting diode (LED) lamp uses only 10 watts of power and emits soft, natural light. Its service life is 20 years. Plus, it creates a cozy atmosphere and saves energy from day one. LEDs are one of the most environmentally friendly light sources.
