Creative lamps in the interior of the cafe
How did such an unusual idea come about?
Former journalist, Brazilian Vilma Farrell, who now lives in New York, does not quite usual business. He collects used coffee filters so that later, with the help of watercolors, he can make these unique lampshades out of them..

Vilma Farrell has two little daughters. It was for them, in 2011, that he began to create these one-of-a-kind products – they combine the love of coffee and the love of light. Vilma Farrell works under the nickname «Lampada» and says this about his work:
«People are usually surprised when they find out that ordinary rubbish can become a work of art. Creating a lampshade from a coffee filter with your own hands is a laborious job. However, the result is worth it – the light casts beautiful shadows and I truly enjoy my work.».
Work process
After collecting the filters at your local Starbucks (they use larger filters), Vilma Farrell hand-draws different colored patterns on them, cuts them into strips and joins them together. After a long work, the result appears – a modern lamp with a stylish lampshade. It seems to be made of colored glass rather than used coffee filters. This is achieved through an interesting geometric pattern and the superposition of stripes and colors on top of each other..
Plans for the future
Vilma Farrell also creates floral arrangements from used coffee filters. His lampshades can be seen in restaurants in New York, San Francisco and many other establishments. This neat lampshade becomes a real treasure: it will skillfully fit into any interior and add comfort and warmth to the atmosphere..
