Designers from a Parisian studio «5.5 designers» presented a concept of not quite ordinary furniture. Their work, dubbed «Karpett», resembles a conveyor belt for purchases installed in stores in front of the checkout.
As conceived by the authors, it is intended to replace several pieces of furniture and interior at once – a folding bed, a rug and a bench.
The authors position their project as a combination of three important components: creative humor, aesthetics and simplicity. In their opinion, young people cannot always afford to furnish their homes with a sufficient number of necessary items, and it is for such cases that Karpett is intended due to its versatility..
To some, this concept may seem too extraordinary and inconvenient, but other people would probably like it..
Karpett has more than enough options for use – it can be a rug for a romantic candlelit dinner, and a kind of home «armchair».
And also it can easily be used as a folding bed, to accommodate a friend (or girlfriend) who suddenly came to visit for the night. When rolled up, this rug with a roller transforms into a fairly comfortable (albeit slightly unusual in appearance) bench.
