The Battery Conservancy and NYC Parks have invited designers and artists from around the world to present their design for the new Battery Park Chairs.
Openwork mesh and structural frame
Sergio Mannino Studio took up the challenge and developed a metal chair that can easily be made a few miles from the park. The structural frame provides the necessary rigid support, and the distribution of human weight throughout the base protects the grass and soil on which this furniture will stand.
The perforated laser cut mesh allows air to circulate freely under the chair, as well as rain to reach the grass in inclement weather.
Another plus of its simplicity and lightness – at night you can freely, without straining, bring it into the room in order to put it back in its place in the morning.
