Old books … They are in every home. And it’s a pity to throw it away – and nowhere to put it. We offer you an interesting idea: to make a shelf from a book with your own hands. Things that keep the warmth of your hands will always serve to decorate the house and bring a special touch to its interior, besides, you will be sure that no one else has exactly the same shelf..
Such a shelf in the form of a book can be a stand for a vase, a photo in a frame, or even a real bookshelf for your own “smaller” brothers, for example, collections of miniature books will look very beautiful on it.
Invisible shelf, first option.
If you have a beautiful, well-published book that is completely uninteresting to read, you can use it to create a shelf that looks like a book hanging in mid-air against a wall. If this book is large, the shelf can be used as a book, small – as a stand for photography or some kind of decorative decoration.
Materials
To make a shelf in the form of a book, you will need:
- the books themselves, it is better that they are beautiful and durable;
- brackets – one for each book, each with three holes;
- three screws (each with two washers);
- for each bracket, three dowels with screws for attaching the brackets to the wall;
- tools: drill, screwdriver.
Process
To make a shelf from a book with your own hands, you do not need any special skills. It is important to follow the sequence of actions.
- We make markings for the holes. We apply the bracket in the center, press it, insert a drill into one of the holes and press hard on it. Repeat for all three holes.
- We drill marked holes in future invisible shelves.
- We put the bracket into the open book (approximately in the middle), insert the screw and washer into it – and fix the second washer on the other side. It protects against unwinding and tearing of the paper.
- We tighten the screw with a screwdriver (or a screwdriver). Repeat for the other two holes.
- In the right place on the wall, we drill a hole for the dowel with a drill, and fix the bracket with the finished shelf on it!
Important: Choose the thickest and thickest book available for your book shelf. Remember that you cannot put too much load on such a shelf..
Invisible shelf, second option.
It differs from the shelf from the first version by mounting on the wall: there is not one bracket, but two, due to which the shelf will turn out to be more durable, stable, and can withstand a heavy load.
Materials
To make a sturdy book shelf with your own hands, you need:
- a large book with a durable hardcover;
- two matching brackets;
- four self-tapping screws for the shelf, and the same number of dowels with screws for fixing the shelf to the wall;
- tools: drill, screwdriver, marking pencil, level.
Process
- On the reverse side, attach the brackets to the book, making sure that they have the same indentation from the edge. Make a pencil markings in the holes – here brackets will be attached to the invisible shelf.
- Drill holes in the cover.
- Lift the back of the cover, insert the brackets there and secure with self-tapping screws.
- Mark the holes for the brackets on the wall. In order for the shelf to hang straight, use a level in work.
- Drill holes in the wall, insert dowels and fix the shelf in them!
