How to hide from everyone: a country house disguised among the rocks

Knapphullet - a house 'in disguise' between the rocks.

Knapphullet – house, «disguised» between the rocks.

In the midst of soulless harsh boulders and rare vegetation, this original house with an unusual design is located. It appears to be a natural extension of a rocky ledge, and the stepped roof can be used as an observation deck..

The Norwegian architecture studio Lund Hagem has unveiled its new project – a beautiful country summer house called Knapphullet. Its shape resembles a small refuge, because it is located in a rocky area on the southeast coast of the country in Sandefjord. Corner, stepped, concrete roof looks like an extension of a stone boulder.

The Knapphullet area is 30 square meters. Thanks to the glass façade, natural light enters the interior of the dwelling throughout the day. Plus, transparent walls allow the owners to admire the sea view.

The floor in the house is made of concrete. However, its cold tone is balanced by the use of natural wood in the interior (ceiling, walls, furniture). Oak planks of the ceiling perfectly hide the construction joints and, at the same time, create a non-standard decor. The house has two small bedrooms, a living room with a wood burning stove and a bathroom.

Norwegians love to build buildings somewhere far away from civilization. So on the rugged shores of the Norwegian island beyond the Arctic Circle is the world’s largest wooden sauna. It can accommodate up to 100 people at the same time.
