Lost Among Boulders: Country House on the Wild Coast

Lille Aroya is a country house on the Norwegian coast.

On the wild and unspoiled coast of Norway, you can find a country house that seems to be stuck among the stone boulders. Tinted windows and dark wood allow the building to perfectly integrate into the surrounding landscape.

Architectural project by Lund Hagem bureau.

Lund Hagem architectural project.

Lund Hagem architects designed and implemented the construction of the Lille Arøya country house. The dwelling is located between rocky boulders on the Norwegian coast in Larvik. The customers were a married couple (interior designer and artist). Like all creative people, they wished to have something non-standard for their vacation. The architect realized this wish in his own way and placed the house on stilts just 5 meters from the water.

Despite the fact that the house is open to strong winds from the south-west, from the other side there is a stunning view of the coast. You can only get to the house from the shore by boat.

The dwelling itself, with an area of 75 square meters, was built with a letter «r», therefore, in one part of it there are bedrooms and bathrooms, and perpendicularly – a living room with a dining room and a kitchen.

Wood, concrete and steel structures were used as the main building materials. This combination of materials dominated by dark shades allowed the house to fit perfectly into the minimalist landscape..
Another, no less original project from the bureau Lund Hagem, is located on the southeast coast of the country in Sandefjord. The house appears to be a natural extension of a rocky ledge, and the stepped roof can be used as an observation deck.
