Summer begins, and with it there is free time, which can be spent on creating something useful and meaningful. For example, I am very enthusiastic about hand-made things, namely, home-made decor elements. Of course, no one will have enough time to make everything come true, but making a pair of stylish decor elements will give you a serious reason to be proud of yourself and your abilities. Below I will describe some of the projects that I am going to start this year..
I hope you find something to your taste and start implementing your favorite idea. If you have not made decorative elements yourself, then I highly recommend taking a closer look at the following options. Each of them is relatively easy to manufacture..
Framed paintings and decorations
If you want to create something unusual with your own hands, but you do not know where to start, then you should pay attention to the project called «Quotes on canvas». It is easy to implement, does not require any special artistic skills and its name speaks for itself. You just need to decide which quote you want to see on your wall..
You will need: a can of white paint, some duct tape, some old newspapers or magazines, spray glue, vinyl letters, and an old canvas or unnecessary painting.
- Cut or tear newspaper pages. The method is irrelevant, since the pieces should not be small. Then paste over the canvas with the resulting clippings..
- When the canvas is completely covered with newspaper or magazine clippings, compose the intended quote on it in vinyl letters (make sure you spell it correctly, because there will be no turning back!).
- Using a sponge brush, apply paint to the entire canvas and carefully trace the outlines of the letters with it. Wait for it to dry.
- Remove the letters from the canvas and enjoy the finished quote on canvas.
Glassware
I recently discovered a very convenient and creative way to cut glass bottles, which requires string, acetone and some fire. You need to dip the needle and thread in acetone, tie the thread around the bottle in the part where you want to cut it, then set fire to the thread and, holding the bottom, start twisting the bottle. Once the string has burned out, dip the bottle in cold water and the top piece will fall off. This method simply opens up a sea of possibilities for creating jewelry from wine bottles, so even though I have not yet figured out what kind of decor elements I will make, you can be sure that this summer I will cut more than a dozen bottles.
You can also cut small holes in the middle of the bottle and put a candle in it to create a homemade lantern. You can even make a miniature garden inside the bottles, or even serve food in them. In fact, there are many uses for these bottles..

Clothes and pillows
Such decor elements are not really my element. Nevertheless, I managed to find an easy-to-make and very useful product – honor ribbons. If you have children, then these ribbons can be used as a reward for successfully completed tasks..
You will need: thin cardboard, unnecessary cloth, glue, and a few ribbons. Cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of a square or rectangular frame, and then another, but a little smaller. Then brush the resulting frame with glue and wrap the fabric around it. After that, cut out a piece of paper that fits into a small frame, and write on it the actual achievement of the child (Chess champion, for example). Glue this lettering to a small piece of cardboard, and that, in turn, to the main frame. And don’t forget to glue the ribbons to the back of the cardboard. That’s all!
DIY furniture
And the next decor element will take a little more time, but it is also quite simple to make. We are talking about a side table (or a suitcase table). You will need an unnecessary suitcase, but do not take one that has already been torn to shreds. In the end, the future table should look dignified. You will also need: four wooden legs, four thin square pieces of wood, a drill, a few nails, and 16 screws.
Make sure all four legs were previously under the same table. If you have an unnecessary table, then simply unscrew the legs from there and place them under the homemade table. For the best balance, cut four thin pieces of wood (in the shape of squares and as identical as possible to each other). Glue and then nail them securely to the legs.
Then you will need to place the finished wooden legs on the bottom of the suitcase, so carefully calculate the distance between them. Place the legs on the suitcase, and without removing them, drill four holes through the bottom of the suitcase and the tops of the legs. Thus, the resulting holes will ideally match in diameter. Then screw the screws through the holes through the inside of the suitcase and into the legs. It remains only to put the plugs on the screws, and the suitcase table is ready for use.
These projects are easy enough to get done and shouldn’t take too long. If you are new to this kind of business, then do not be afraid of trial and error – in the summer you will have enough time for it.
