Decorating the interior and creating something with your own hands is not at all difficult if there are clear and detailed instructions, a little free time and the necessary materials at hand. We offer you an original idea for decorating a pillow from ribbons.
The originality of such a pillow will lie in the material for making it, we will create a pillow cover from satin ribbons. In order for the project to be successful, you must first decide in what color the decorative pillowcase will be made and, accordingly, select a set of ribbons first. The interior, in which the pillow will be located, will help you navigate the color solutions.
To create a pillow from ribbons, we need the following materials and tools:
- satin ribbons of different colors (the same length, different widths from 1 to 4 cm),
- set of pins,
- piece of cotton fabric for lining,
- fabric for pillow back,
- threads in the main color of the product,
- scissors,
- sewing machine.
Choose a flat, horizontal surface, preferably with a cork or foam covering, into which it is easy to stick the needles, and at the same time rather rigid for comfortable work. Lay out and secure with needles in the corners, a fabric blank, the size of the future pillowcase of a pillow made of satin ribbons, it will act as a lining.
The next step for creating a pillow from ribbons is to iron the ribbons, ideally through the fabric or at a very low temperature. The field of which, we lay out in the order of the colors, or chaotically. The ribbons must be the same length. We fasten each tape on top with a pin, leave the bottom edge free.
The next step in making a ribbon pillow is the most creative. You need to pick up and thread the horizontal ribbons. It is interesting to select combinations and immediately see the result – whether the shade came up or not. We fix each tape at both ends with a pin. First the left edge, and after the end of weaving, and the right.
Keep going “weaving” satin ribbon pillows to the desired length, then secure all loose edges with pins and cut off any excess. Before the crucial moment of sewing the ribbons on a sewing machine, it is recommended to sweep them to the lining fabric with wide stitches. In this case, working on the typewriter will be easier, and you will not have to correct “cage”.
We sew our pillow from satin ribbons. We attach the ribbons to the lining, sew the back of the pillowcase from two rectangles overlapping each other.
To create a unified style, we sew a pair of ribbons to the back of the ribbon pillow instead of the standard buttons.
The decoration is almost complete and now your ribbon cushion will look pretty not only from the front side. Your satin ribbon pillow is ready!
