You don’t have to go shopping for an armchair or chair if your décor lacks seating. You yourself can take care of creating an original piece of furniture, for example, create soft ottomans with your own hands. We will need the following materials and tools:
- cuts of various fabrics into flaps;
- fabric on the back of the ottoman;
- rope;
- filler for pouf;
- button;
- pins;
- scissors;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- sewing machine.
Cut out identical rectangles from the fabric cuts. In order not to be mistaken with the future size, define the length of the rectangle as half the diameter of the future pillow. Dimensions of the soft ottoman with your own hands in the example 5 * 30cm.
We divide the resulting rectangles into two pointed triangles, use a ruler to draw a line from corner to corner, obliquely and cut. The narrow part of the fabric will be directed to the center of the pillow, the wide part to the edge.
We proceed to the crucial stage of the layout, how to sew an ottoman with our own hands, so that it is convenient to sew the flaps to each other. We already have a couple of triangles, to one of them, from right to left, we apply a rectangle and sew on a typewriter from the wrong side.
Next, we cut off a triangle from a rectangle, a diagonal from a narrow edge to a wide one, so that two stitched triangles form a new one. In the same way, we continue to sew the next patches, not forgetting to alternate colors..
Continue sewing the flaps until you have sewn a circle. To align the edges of the circle, fold it in four, cut off the excess along the edge of the sector.
The lower part of a soft ottoman with your own hands can be sewn using the same technique, only from wider rectangular segments. Sew the rectangles together to make a square. Cut a circle from the square, the same radius as the front side.
Lay out the rope with a rectangular piece of fabric from the wrong side, the length of the rope and fabric should be equal to the diameter of the pillow, pin the fabric from the front side with pins. see picture.
Now we fasten both parts of the pillow with pins, right sides to each other, along the edge, lay the rope in the fabric.
Before sewing on a typewriter, sweep away all parts. Sew the workpiece as close to the rope as possible.
Do not close the seam, leave about fifteen centimeters free. Through the “window”, turn the soft ottoman with your own hands to the front side.
Sew the edges of the rope together on the front side, hide the edges with a blind seam.
Fill the ottoman with filler, sew on a decorative button (sews the pouf right through in the middle).
